For some, there might be a slight air of relief born when arriving at a rap mixtape that lies under what seems like the usual 15 or 20-track length standard. With just nine songs constituting his debut on the newly affiliated Warp imprint, Jeremiah Jae comes with the expected quality and substance on each track that we’ve learned he is very capable of turning in—exceptionally as both an MC and producer. The LA-based artist goes the distance on Bad Jokes with no hooks, instead spitting Doom-esque low-key rhymes over psychedelic loops, most of which seem to be the only trimming on a rather frill-less, raw lyrical product (a usual combination from Jae). For “Oatmeal Face,” he imports the production of Brainfeeder boss Flying Lotus, and for a couple other songs he is joined by fellow Black Jungle Squad bredrin Oliver the 2nd.
