“Killin’ y’all rappers, your PR CC’d ya/You need more style, you need a Drake feature/Keep your friends close, keep away from the leeches”
Bay Area advocate and Khalifa/Iamsu! affiliate Roach Gigz has been one of hyphy’s most reliable, funny and gifted practitioners since 2010. His newest mixtape, Roachy Balboa III, is due out July 25th. The rapper posted an impressive webcam clip (now removed) of RBIII track “Vertigo” earlier this year, and now that same hulking, hook-less wonder of a rap song has received the full video treatment. There’s nothing revolutionary here- just absolutely unbeatable rhyming and a fierce C-Loz backbeat that will make even the most reticent listener nod along. David Camarena’s video is cut at lightning, panic-attack-inducing speed and prominently features the rapper posing in front of the Golden Gate Bridge. Make sure you watch this clip to its conclusion so you can enjoy Roach packing in an impressive slew of acapella couplets. He tags out with a breathless exclamation of “f*ck rap,” which seems fitting- he’s demonstrated pretty much everything he can do with the craft in just three-and-a-half minutes, and now he's spent. Enjoy the pyrotechnics below.
