Joss Whedon Responds To 'Dark Knight Rises' Cinematographer's Dislike of 'The Avengers'

Can't the superhero movie community just get along? It looks like Joss Whedon would have it that way, but The Dark Knight Rises cinematographer Wally Pfister thinks differently.

According to NME, Pfister, who worked on all of Christopher Nolan's Batman films, recently criticized Whedon's The Avengers to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune: "I thought The Avengers was an appalling film. They'd shoot from some odd angle and I'd think, why is the camera there?" Pfiser answered his own question by saying, "Oh, I see, because they spent half a million on the set and they have to show it off. It took me completely out of the movie. I was driven bonkers by that illogical form of storytelling."

His comment about the cost of the Avengers sets doesn't really seem fair coming from the cinematographer of multiple similarly expensive blockbusters, but nonetheless Joss Whedon isn't turning this into a fight.

The beloved writer-director gave Entertainment Weekly a brief, tasteful response when asked about Pfister's comments: "I'm sorry to hear it, I'm a fan."

Pfister will have to deal with the fact that The Avengers has a sequel in the works which is set to be released in May 2015. The follow-up will also be directed by Whedon.
