On his forthcoming album Extended Play, set to be released June 18, Statik Selektah gathered an eclectic set of rappers and curated a catalogue of nostalgic beats. Already his fifth studio album, Statik Selektah's modus operandi still remains "why change something that already works." And for him that is the golden era of rap as he doesn't tamper with beats that are easily redolent to the boom rap era. The producer/ DJ has made his album Extended Play available through NPR.
Extended Play is, for the most part, a nostalgic effort as he remains true to his roots, paying tribute to his inspirations: the jazz- tinged Tribe Called Quest and the chopped and screwed vocal cuts of DJ Premier.
The album boasts everyone from the experienced veterans like Prodigy, Black Thought, and Raekwon, to the young, burgeoning emcee's like Flatbush Zombies and Mac Miller.
