New Mixtape: IamSu- "Kilt II"

23-year-old Richmond, CA native IamSu! is one of the most gifted and original voices in Bay Area hip-hop. He's just released the sequel to his critically acclaimed 2012 mixtape Kilt, and, typically, it's an enjoyable and varied offering. It features hazy, stoner-oriented down-tempos, novelty pop tracks and plenty of the straight-ahead hyphy bangers (with lots of help from P-Lo and Trackademics) for which Su is still most popular.

Since his breakout in 2010, IamSu! has become known as one of the most prolific rappers on the West Coast outside of E-40 and Lil B, and has yet to release a poorly recieved tape. He's a songwriter as much as he is a verse-to-verse wunderkind. He's always on top of the beat and has a diverse and impeccable flow, but he never feels the need to show off, or say too much when the song doesn't warrant it.

Despite the fact that his recent Million Dollar Afro tour with Compton collaborator Problem gained him exposure and press attention in the Eastern timezone, Su still hasn't garnered the recognition he really deserves outside of California. Help change this. Check out club monsters like “Millions” and “Let Go,” the glitchy G-Funk of “Father God” and “Key of Life” (both of which Su scored himself), and the pleasantly sentimental ballad “Float."  Kilt II also includes a remix of previously released single “100 Grand” featuring Juvenile- watch the video here.  Any of these songs are a perfect entry point into Iamsu!'s music.
