"My Shoes" feat. Starlito and Killa Kyleon (Video)

“Yeah, my shoes is tied tight/You never know when you might have to strike”

The standout track from Scotty’s new mixtape  F.A.I.T.H. (“Forever Atlanta In The Heart”) gets the video treatment. Despite its title, the album doesn’t sound like most of the rap that’s currently coming out of Atlanta courtesy of 1017 Brick Squad and the Freebandz Gang. This is music in the tradition of elder statesmen like Goodie Mob, Killer Mike, and the original ATLiens: Outkast. Scotty’s nostalgic approach is often compared to his sometimes-collaborator, Mississippi’s prolific Big K.R.I.T, who shows up on F.A.I.T.H. However, there’s a more distinct trap-lite sensibility, i.e. Rome Fortune and Trinidad James,  which gives the tape a unmistakably contemporary sound.

“My Shoes” is carried not only by Scotty’s well-oiled flow, but by features from the initimable Starlito, one of Southern rap’s strongest lyricists, and Houston underground legend Killa Kyleon. The “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”-like guitar work in DJ Burn One’s production is also essential to the track’s appeal. Check out the guys showcasing their skills below.
