If you're in charge at DC Comics, you must have just breathed a huge sigh of relief. The wait is over, and your moment in the sun is on the way.
You see, DC had the cream-of-the-crop superheroes for quite some time. From the late '70s to the late '90s, the only big-name comic book movies were based on Superman and Batman titles. However, with the release of 2002's Spider-Man, Marvel stepped out of the shadows and hasn't looked back. Ever since that time, the company's heroes have appeared in more and more films, and audiences have become acquainted with The Hulk, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil, the X-Men, Iron Man and many more.
The high-water mark came earlier this year when the smash hit The Avengers was released. DC Comics has certainly had success recently, considering that Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy is the gold standard for superhero movies. However, Marvel is intent on churning out more and more films, and there's nothing stopping the company once it finally reacquires the rights to Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.
However, DC just had a coup of its own. According to /Film, a recent lawsuit decision has cleared the way for Superman to appear in Justice League, which is essentially DC's counterpart to The Avengers. That means it should be released around 2015, giving the company plenty of time to maneuver a Batman reboot, a Wonder Woman movie and a new version of The Flash into place for the superhero team film.
