In a span of just over two minutes, director Joshua Cox burns down the classic Americana imagery in the video for STRFKR's "Beach Monster". Supporting Buddy Holly style, the Portland electro-pop quartet's performance is intercut with shots of an idealized family enjoying a beautiful day at the beach. What could be more apple pie than that? But this outdated facade reveals its ugly truth at song's end. Can't help asking some of you to stop viewing Portland through Portlandia while I'm at it.
"Beach Monster" is from Miracle Mile, released February 19, 2013 on Polyvinyl Records.
