Two of Australia's most prolific artists, Steve Kilbey & Martin Kennedy, are gearing up for the release of their third full-length, You Are Everything. For those of you oblivious to these veteran musicians, here's a quick rundown. Steve Kilbey is best known for fronting The Church - a neo-psychedelic post punk quartet that emerged right when the eighties let out its baby cries and have been filling up the bins with new releases for over three decades, evolving into more of an arty space rock band. Kilbey is also an actor, a poet, a painter, and passionately against the consumption and the abuse of animals. (Maybe I should mention that he has been the single greatest influential public figure in my life.) Kennedy is also a vegetarian, as well as a cartoonist/painter, and operates the ambient extraordinaire group, All India Radio.
Along with profusion of his solo catalogue, Kilbey has had many collaborations throughout his illustrious music career, including the late Grant McLennan of The Go-Betweens under the moniker of Jack Frost. But Kennedy is proving to be the most congenial partner - having pressed the third LP in their four year history should be a corroboration.
In preparation for the release of You Are Everything in May (June in US), Kennedy, who has been honing his media production skills, has made a cosmic music video for the lead track. "I Wouldn't Know" affirms the duo's ability to craft lush, affecting, and ethereal sonic panoramas; the animated, composited imagery, where the earthly realm and the outer space converge, beautifully encapsulates the aura of the song.
