Mister Suit & Tie aka Justin Timberlake debuted No. 1 on the Billboard charts with his new album The 20/20 Experience. Although it fell shy of hitting platinum status in its first week, 968,000 isn't too bad of a number to debut at. In fact, the pop star outsold his multiplatinum selling sophomore album FutureSex/LoveSounds (which only sold 684,000 its opening week). In addition to being number No. 1 on Billboard, iTunes has reported that the album was also No. 1 on its album sales chart.
It's been quite some time since a male solo artist has been able to deliver these kind of numbers. Timberlake joins hip hop artist Lil Wayne, Usher, and Garth Brooks. So the five year female reign on the top of the charts has finally been broken. The massive marketing for Timberlake's comeback has succeeded and has made it the fastest selling album of 2013.
But let's not forget that this is only the first volume to The 20/20 Experience. As Questlove has confirmed it a few weeks ago, Volume 2 will be making its appearance sometime later this year. Let's see if will receive the same kind of numbers that Volume 1 has.
