A week after the release of The Archer Trilogy Pt. 3., The Deer Tracks kicked off their North American tour on February 19. While Portland seemed like an unlikely starting point for a band traveling from Sweden, I was thrilled to be one of the first in the Western Hemisphere to witness my recent discovery. And being always the voracious music journalist, I thought that documenting the duo’s premiere show would be an enlivening experience. So I went to Mississippi Studios with my DSLR camera kit, along with pink Voodoo Doughnut (who is sponsoring a musician portrait series) boxes, but too many uncontrollable and unforeseen factors worked against my little project - i.e. couldn’t find a second camera/assistant. Thus, my ambition has turned into a video interview. Nevertheless, entering the world of The Deer Tracks was no less magical.
The domain of The Deer Tracks conjures other-worldliness and mythical beauty, which instilled some intimidation within me, before meeting its architects in person. Much to my delight, David Lehnberg and Elin Lindfors were down to earth, friendly, playful, and peaceful souls, as you can deduce from the video interview that took place the morning after the Portland show. The self-labeled “Northern Light Electronica” act from Gävle seemed to be the paradigm of a synergetic partnership.
