When should a dance craze be officially put to rest? As with any cultural phenomenon, shelf-life is often debatable; however, there is usually one big cue that something is ready to be sent out to pasture and shot in the head.
"Gangnam Style" unceremoniously shifted from amusing to obsolete when a bunch of bros stupidly did the "horse dance" during Hurricane Sandy to be on TV; the "Harlem Shake" probably should have ended when it was determined that the jiggly epileptic thing people were doing was not even the Harlem Shake. However, now that local newsstations have their own versions, let's be done.
But first, as a sort of eulogy, here's a reminder that even when something is pointless and idiotic, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will always make it funny and charming, by virtue of being funny and charming. We can't think of a better way to send the Harlem Shake off to Internet Meme Heaven. Watch below.
