In most cases, most people did not know that Karen Lee Orzolek aka Karen O of the indie post-punk outfit the Yeah Yeah Yeahs was half-Korean. Having always been an advocate for the Korean arts, in a recent interview with Triple J Radio in Australia she answered a question in which she admitted that PSY's "Gangnam Style" made her cry.
For years, the North American entertainment industry always had Asians on the sidelines. And although stars have come and gone making small splashes here and there, they're either Chinese (older stars such as Jackie Chan and even Bruce Lee still remain as staples and their cinema has become a huge part of pop culture) and or Japanese (the J-pop movement in the 90s and early 2000s with Utada Hikaru, Ayumi Hamasaki and Pizzacato Five and their numerous films having always become a part of classic cult cinema). But as we all know, PSY’s “Gangnam Style” was practically the biggest thing to have come out of South Korea last year and put them map. She stated that South Korea has finally gotten "with the program."
