Bad news for Mars Volta devotees; Cedric Bixler-Zavala, core member of the legendary Latin-tinged Texas prog outfit, has announced that he is no longer part of the band. The Mars Volta had been on hiatus since the conclusion of the Noctourniquet tour in early 2012.
Bixler just declared on Twitter that "I no longer am a member of Mars Volta" and "sadly, it's over." His (partial) statement follows:
Thank u 2 all VOLTA fans u deserved more especially after the way u rooted for us on this album. I tried my hardest to keep it going (cont-)

But Bosnian Rainbows was what we all got instead. I can't sit here and pretend any more. I no longer am a member of Mars Volta. (cont-)
