Trinidad James Signs With Def Jam

That was quick. The hottest artist in hip-hop has been snatched up by Def Jam Recordings. Billboard broke the news today that Atlanta's Trinidad James has signed a record deal with the major label.

Def Jam's president Joie Manda stated the following about his new signee:

"We're excited to welcome a young talent like Trinidad James to the Def Jam family. Def Jam prides itself as both a cornerstone of hip-hop's rich tradition, and as a vital, forward-thinking label dedicated to breaking and nurturing emerging artists. Trinidad James represents the cutting-edge of what's happening in the culture today. We are thrilled to have him at the label, and look forward to growing his already massive buzz."

After James caught fire recently with the release of his video for "All Good Everything," the label war was on. It has not been verified but the rumor mill has been buzzing that the label offered $2 million and with that the deal was done. If that figure is correct, Def Jam is expecting James to join the ranks of their other superstar artists (Kanye West, Rihanna, 2 Chainz, Frank Ocean) and become the next big thing in hip-hop.
