A personal note: not to be all "my dad is better than your dad" but my father has, over the years, curated the dopest Christmas playlist you will ever find on this planet. I'm talking a practically three-hour mix of Andrews Sisters (old-school Christmas), Jethro Tull (jazz flute Christmas), and Destiny's Child (Beyoncé ad-libbing Christmas). And I think my father would be 100% down with adding Eleanor Friedberger's "Santa, Bring My Baby Back To Me" to his rad X-mas Mixx.
It's a cut off Hear Music/Concord's Holidays Rule compilation—all new recorded holiday songs from Andrew Bird, The Shins, and more—and it has the same acoustic, vaguely jazzy and highly eccentric vibe that Friedberger laid on her awesome 2011 solo album Last Summer. "Santa" is in the same thematic vein as Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" or Britney Spears' underrated "Santa, Can You Hear Me?": presents don't matter, snow don't matter, just place my significant other under the tree.
