From the ashes of Minneapolis female-fronted Total Babe (which featured Jordan Gatesmith of rock 'n' roll troupe Howler on lead guitar), Clara Salyer rises up with her new band, Prissy Clerks. While not totally straying from the twee elements of Salyer's previous act, Prissy Clerks features a much more raucous, fuzzy 90s resonance. The lead track "Bruise or Be Bruised" is a perfect example of this crunchy sound. The speeding guitars and the pop punk-like anthem is a fun tribute to their love for 90s rock mavens like Pavement and Sebadoh.

"Bruise or Be Bruised" was the last song written for the album, kind of a last hurrah and turned out to be the single, caught us by surprise. It was also the song that we all collaborated on the most. I don't like being too specific but the song is about being hurt (emotionally I'm talking, but the song's literal so who cares) and all the thoughts the buzz through your head immediately after, totally irrational and silly ones. And then coming back down to earth from there and putting up a front.
