After surpringly backing up eighties and nineties R&B star Jody Watley at a gig in Los Angeles, Brooklyn's (via Milwaukee) electronic dance act duo (and also brothers) French Horn Rebellion ended up prodicing a single called "Cold Enough" with the star.
The brothers talked to Entertainment Weekly about the inception of the collaboration:
"The connection was immediate. Nerding-out on stage making people dance. After the show, we mentioned to Jody that we were working on a new sound called Next Jack Swing and she was very interested."
Watley described the collaboration:
"In the studio we bonded over our Midwestern connection it gets real cold in Milwaukee and Chicago [Watley's hometown], and this song was made as the antidote. The track combines old and new and hot and cold in a way that makes me want to move."
The single "Cold Enough" is an electronic number with bass grooves sure to move some feet and shake some hips. Watley's vocals are just as sultry and alluring as when she first begun her career. And all the while, the fresh take on something old is also nostalgic.
