Paramount hasn't released the official teaser trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness, but the official "announcement" trailer is online as of today. You may be asking yourself: what's an announcement trailer? Well, judging from the video below, it's just a teaser trailer (but not the exclusive teaser trailer that comes out Dec. 17). So many different words for one thing.
Here's one word to describe the official exclusive announcement teaser trailer: Cumberbatch. The Sherlock star has the voice of a terrifying, but sexy (it's important to distinguish) villain just in his normal everyday life, so when he amps it up on screen it's chilling. He'll probably make an excellent Khan, even if the rest of the movie blows (which is probably won't, at least not in the symbolic sense). Watch a few things literally blow below.
Here's the official synopsis for the film--an "epic chess game of life and death":
When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters May 17, 2013.
